Biography
Called to the bar in 1993
Sarah has practiced family law since 1993 and became a partner of Basman Smith in 2004. She helps clients negotiate marriage contracts, co-habitation and separation agreements and resolve complex support, property, custody and access disputes. Sarah represents clients in mediations, arbitrations and before the courts. Sarah is currently listed in the The Best Lawyers International directory and is also a fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, a worldwide association of practising lawyers who are recognized by their peers as the top family law lawyers in their countries. Sarah speaks and writes frequently on family law issues. She is the author of educational materials used by the Law Society of Upper Canada's Licensing process covering the topics: Custody and Access, Child Support, Spousal Support and Enforcement of Support Orders. Having received her LL.B. from the University of Toronto and her B.A. (Hons.) and M.A. from Queen's University, Sarah served as Law Clerk to Mr. Justice Cory at the Supreme Court of Canada. Sarah was then counsel to the Ontario Law Reform Commission, and practiced family law at two national law firms before joining Basman Smith.
